Pharmacists to hold annual conference in Bethlehem

In preparation for the sixth Palestinian pharmacists conference at Bethlehem's convention palace, pharmacists held a meeting Wednesday to discuss its agenda.

The head of the preparatory committee for the conference, Dr Muhammad Dofash, attended in addition to doctors and pharmacists from the region. They decided to title the conference "Toward Professional Pharmacist Performance."

The conference, sponsored by Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, will include specialists displaying their products and the latest medical achievements. There will also be an exhibition for Palestinian and international medicines.

A media committee will cover the conference’s events, said Dr Dofash.

The conference will bring to mind the role of Palestinian pharmacy in the Arab world. The Union of Arab Pharmacists was founded in Jerusalem in 1966 with the participation of the head of pharmacists in Palestine, Dr. Shawkat Kamal, and of the Pharmacists Syndicate in Egypt, Dr Mohammed Mtawe.

During the conference they will stress that Jerusalem has been and always will be the permanent headquarters, and will host future events when it is independent and recognized as the Palestinian capital.

The head of the Palestinian Pharmacists Syndicate, Dr Fawaz Siam, said at the meeting that the conference will take place 7-9 April.

Dr Siam added that organizers chose to hold the conference in Bethlehem because it is the closest to Jerusalem. Several Arab delegations are expected to attend, he added.
